Solar Panels & Renewable Energy in Alberta

Alberta has been and intends to remain an energy superpower only now the plan is to turn homes and businesses into micro-generation systems. On Dec. 21, 2016, the Government of Alberta amended the Micro-generation Regulation to provide more flexible rules for Albertans generating their own electricity. The recently announced Residential and Commercial Solar Program, which offers rebates to homeowners, businesses and non-profits that install solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, is expected to launch this June.
Bolstered by other initiatives like the Alberta Municipal Solar Program and the On-Farm Solar PV Program, solar uptake has doubled in the province since 2015.

By 2019, the Residential and Commercial Solar Program is expected to:
•    Support the creation of 900 jobs in Alberta’s solar sector;
•    Cut solar installation costs by up to 30 per cent for residences;
•    Cut solar installation costs by up to 25 per cent for businesses and non-profits; and
•    Reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the province by about half a million tonnes – the equivalent of taking 100,000 passenger vehicles off the road.

“Solar photovoltaic” is the scientific term for cells that convert sunlight into electricity. At A. Clark Roofing & Siding LP, we’ve seen firsthand how Edmonton solar panel installation can save home and business owners money each and every day. According to Natural Resources Canada, Alberta has some of the best solar energy system opportunities in Canada. Now is the time to start preparing for this new program, new rebate, and energy-efficient technology.

“There’s a lot of buzz in Alberta around small-scale solar. Along the way, we will create jobs and local expertise in an emerging industry,” says Shannon Phillips, Minister of Environment and Parks and Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office.

The Alberta government is putting up $36 million over two years for a rebate program to encourage rooftop solar panels on homes and businesses. This program will make solar power affordable for more Albertans, leading to new panels on 10,000 Alberta rooftops by 2020 – something that A. Clark Roofing & Siding LP has been doing for years so you can feel confident that our consistent, quality driven team will get your work done right the first time. Details will be defined in coming months, including qualifying systems, installation and eligibility requirements and procedures that will vary by region.
